Asphalt Paving Contractors Brentwood

What Proper Paving Gets You

You get a driveway that doesn’t crack after the first winter. One that drains properly instead of turning into a pond every time it rains.

The difference is in the foundation work most contractors skip. We excavate to proper depth, grade for drainage, and compact in lifts. Your asphalt gets the base it needs to handle Long Island’s freeze-thaw cycles without settling or heaving.

Commercial properties get the same attention to detail. Proper thickness for your traffic load, reinforced edges where trucks turn, and drainage that keeps water moving away from your building. No shortcuts that cost you more later.

We Know Long Island Paving

All Purpose Paving has been handling Brentwood’s paving needs for years. We understand the soil conditions here, the weather patterns that destroy poorly installed asphalt, and what it takes to build driveways that last.

You won’t find us cutting corners on excavation or using substandard materials. Every job gets the same professional approach whether it’s a residential driveway or a commercial parking lot.

We’re licensed, insured, and local. When you call, you get someone who knows your neighborhood and stands behind their work.

Driveway Paving Process

How We Build Lasting Driveways

First, we excavate to proper depth and remove any unstable soil. Most driveway failures start here with inadequate prep work.

Next comes the base layer – crushed stone that’s graded for drainage and compacted in lifts. This foundation determines how long your asphalt will last. We don’t rush this step.

Finally, we install the asphalt at proper thickness for your traffic needs. Hot mix asphalt, professionally graded, and compacted while it’s still workable. The result is a smooth, durable surface that sheds water and resists cracking.

For commercial jobs, we coordinate with your business schedule to minimize disruption. Most residential driveways are completed in one day once prep work is done.

Complete Paving Services

Residential driveways get full excavation, proper base preparation, and asphalt thickness appropriate for normal car traffic. We handle permits, mark utilities, and coordinate with your schedule.

Commercial projects include parking lots, access roads, and loading areas. Each gets engineered for its specific traffic load with reinforced edges where needed. We work around your business hours when possible.

Both residential and commercial jobs include proper drainage solutions. Water is asphalt’s biggest enemy in Long Island’s climate. We grade everything to move water away from your property and prevent the pooling that leads to premature failure.

A properly installed asphalt driveway should last 15-20 years in Long Island’s climate. The key word is “properly.” Driveways that fail early usually have inadequate base preparation or poor drainage. We excavate to appropriate depth (typically 12-18 inches), install a compacted stone base, and grade everything for water runoff. With proper installation and basic maintenance like sealcoating every few years, you shouldn’t see significant cracking or settling for well over a decade.
The difference is in the foundation work you can’t see. Cheaper contractors often skip proper excavation, use inadequate base material, or don’t compact in lifts. They might install asphalt over existing surfaces without addressing underlying problems. We excavate to stable soil, install engineered base materials, and compact everything properly. Yes, it costs more upfront, but you avoid the expense of premature replacement. Most of our competitors’ “bargain” driveways need major repairs within 3-5 years.
Drainage is critical in Long Island’s climate. We grade your driveway with a minimum 2% slope to move water away from your house and garage. If your property has drainage challenges, we install catch basins or redirect runoff to appropriate areas. Poor drainage causes more driveway failures than heavy traffic. Water that pools or runs under the asphalt will cause settling, cracking, and frost heave. Every job gets a drainage plan that works with your property’s natural water flow.
It depends on the condition of your existing driveway and base. If the current surface is structurally sound with only minor cracking and no settling, an overlay might work. But if there are drainage issues, significant cracks, or areas that have settled, we need to excavate and start fresh. Paving over problems just hides them temporarily – they’ll show through the new asphalt within a year or two. We’ll assess your specific situation and recommend the approach that gives you the longest-lasting result.
For typical residential use, we install 2-3 inches of hot mix asphalt over a properly prepared base. The base layer is more important than asphalt thickness for most driveways. However, if you have heavy vehicles, RVs, or delivery trucks regularly using your driveway, we’ll recommend 3-4 inches of asphalt with a reinforced base. Commercial applications require different specifications based on expected traffic loads. The key is matching the installation to your actual usage, not just going with the minimum thickness.
Excavation typically takes one day and involves heavy equipment removing old material and preparing the base. This is the noisiest part of the process. Base installation and compaction usually happen the same day. Asphalt installation often occurs the next day, weather permitting. You’ll need to keep vehicles off the new surface for 24-48 hours while it cures. We coordinate utility marking, handle any required permits, and work around your schedule as much as possible. Most residential jobs are completed within 2-3 days from start to finish.
