Your driveway stops being a headache. Oil and stone surfaces handle Fair Harbor’s freeze-thaw cycles without the constant cracking you see with regular asphalt.
You get 7-10 years of solid performance with minimal maintenance. No annual sealing. No patching every spring. Just a surface that looks good and works properly.
The natural stone finish gives you curb appeal that actually improves over time. While your neighbors deal with black asphalt that fades and cracks, your driveway maintains its textured, attractive appearance year after year.
We’ve been handling Fair Harbor driveway projects for years. We understand how Long Island’s soil conditions and weather patterns affect different paving materials.
Most contractors push whatever’s easiest for them to install. We recommend what actually works best for your specific situation and budget. That’s often oil and stone, especially if you’re tired of constant asphalt maintenance.
We start by preparing your base properly. This means grading for proper drainage and compacting the foundation. Most driveway problems start with poor base preparation, so we don’t cut corners here.
Next comes the hot oil application. We apply a layer of heated asphalt emulsion that bonds with the base and provides the adhesive for the stone layer.
Then we spread and embed the stone chips while the oil is still tacky. The stone gets rolled into the oil, creating a textured surface that’s both functional and attractive. The whole process typically takes 1-2 days depending on driveway size.

Oil and stone costs significantly less than concrete or pavers while lasting much longer than basic asphalt. You’re looking at roughly half the cost of concrete with better longevity than standard asphalt.
The surface drains exceptionally well. Water doesn’t pool like it does on smooth asphalt, which means less freeze damage and fewer drainage issues around your property.
Repairs are straightforward when they’re eventually needed. Instead of cutting out sections and patching like with asphalt, oil and stone can be spot-repaired by adding fresh oil and stone to worn areas. This keeps long-term maintenance costs low and extends the life of your investment.
