Old Mastic Asphalt Contractors

We Know Long Island Asphalt

We’ve been handling asphalt projects across Long Island for years. We understand what works in this climate and what doesn’t.

The soil conditions here, the winter weather, the heavy traffic loads – we’ve seen it all. That experience shows in how we prep the base, choose materials, and plan drainage.

You’re working with contractors who live and work in this area. We’re not learning on your project or guessing about local conditions.

Asphalt Installation Process

How We Handle Your Project

First, we evaluate your site and existing conditions. Proper base preparation is everything – shortcuts here mean problems later. We excavate to the right depth and grade for proper drainage.

Next comes the base layer. We use quality aggregate and compact it properly. This foundation determines how long your asphalt will last. Rush this step and you’ll have problems within a few years.

Finally, we apply the asphalt in lifts, using commercial-grade equipment for even coverage and proper compaction. The surface gets finished smooth and even, with proper slopes for water runoff. Clean edges, professional appearance.

Commercial and Residential Asphalt

Complete Asphalt Services

We handle everything from residential driveways to commercial parking lots. New installation, repairs, and resurfacing – whatever your asphalt needs.

For commercial properties, we understand the importance of minimizing disruption. We plan projects to work around your business hours when possible and complete work efficiently to get you back to normal operations.

Residential projects get the same attention to quality and professionalism. Your driveway reflects on your home, and we make sure it looks right. Proper drainage, smooth finish, clean edges that complement your property.

Most residential driveways take 1-2 days depending on size and site conditions. Day one is excavation and base preparation. Day two is asphalt installation and finishing. Larger commercial projects obviously take longer, but we provide realistic timelines upfront. Weather can affect scheduling – we don’t install asphalt in rain or when temperatures are too cold for proper curing.
Repair works when you have isolated problem areas – a few potholes or small sections of cracking. We cut out the damaged area and patch it properly. Full replacement is needed when the base has failed or when repairs would cost more than starting over. We’ll assess your situation honestly and recommend the most cost-effective approach for your specific conditions.
You can typically drive on new asphalt within 24-48 hours, depending on weather conditions and temperature. We’ll give you specific timing based on the conditions during your installation. Avoid parking in the same spot repeatedly for the first week, and be careful with kickstands or sharp turns until the surface fully cures.
Poor base preparation is usually the culprit. If the foundation isn’t properly excavated, graded, and compacted, the asphalt will crack as the base settles. Inadequate drainage also causes problems – water gets under the asphalt and creates voids. Using thin asphalt layers or low-grade materials will also lead to premature failure. Proper installation costs more upfront but saves money long-term.
Sometimes, but only if the existing base is solid. We evaluate the current surface for structural integrity, drainage issues, and thickness. If the foundation is good, an overlay can be cost-effective. But if there are base problems, overlaying just covers up issues that will resurface quickly. We’ll assess your specific situation and recommend the approach that makes sense.
Seal coating every 3-5 years helps protect against weather and extends life. Keep the surface clean and address small cracks promptly before they become bigger problems. Avoid using rock salt in winter – sand or calcium chloride are better options. For commercial properties, regular sweeping and prompt repair of any damage will keep your pavement looking professional and functioning properly.
